Old Fashioned

Ingredients

  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 3 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 1 teaspoon water
  • 2 ounces bourbon
  • Garnish: orange peel

Steps

  1. Add the sugar, bitters and water into a rocks glass, and stir until sugar is nearly dissolved.
  2. Fill the glass with large ice cubes, add the bourbon, and gently stir to combine.
  3. Express the oil of an orange peel over the glass, then drop in.

Dry Martini

Episode 2

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 oz Gin
  • 1/2 oz Dry vermouth
  • 1 dash Orange bitters
  • Garnish: Lemon twist

Steps

  1. Add all the ingredients into a mixing glass with ice and stir until very cold.
  2. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
  3. Garnish with a lemon twist.

(Carmen adds a dash of salt after straining into the glass.)

 

Cosmopolitan

Episode 24

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz Citrus vodka
  • 1 oz Cointreau
  • 1/2 oz Fresh lime juice
  • 1 dash Cranberry juice
  • Garnish: Lime wheel

Steps

  1. Add all ingredients into a shaker with ice and shake.
  2. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
  3. Garnish with a lime wheel.

Salinger's Sling

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces Bulleit Bourbon
  • 1/2 ounce Grand Marnier
  • 1/4 ounce demerara syrup*
  • 2 dashes coffee bitters
  • Orange twist for garnish

Steps

  1. Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass and stir quickly with large ice cubes. Strain over a large ice cube in a chilled Old Fashioned glass.
  2. Twist the orange peel into a spiral (this brings out the essential oils), rub over the rim of the glass, and place on top of the beverage.
  3. *To make demerara syrup, combine 2 parts cane sugar and 1 part water in a small saucepan. Simmer over low heat, stirring occasionally, until sugar dissolves. Transfer to an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to 1 month

Hot Toddy

Episode 2

Ingredients

  • boiling water, to fill a mug
  • 4 cloves
  • 1 lemon peel or wheel
  • 2 tsp Demerara sugar or brown sugar
  • 1/4 ounce fresh lemon juice
  • 2 ounces bourbon, rye whiskey, Irish whiskey or scotch

Steps

  1. Fill a mug with boiling water and let stand for a minute or two to warm.
  2. Meanwhile, stick the cloves into the lemon peel or wheel and set aside.
  3. Empty the mug and fill about halfway with fresh boiling water.
  4. Add the sugar and stir to dissolve.
  5. Add the prepared lemon peel or wheel and stir.
  6. Add the lemon juice and whiskey, and stir again.

 

Mulled Wine

Ingredients

  • Red wine 
  • Brandy
  • Cinnamon sticks, cardamom, and star anise
  • Water and honey will cover the basics, but apple cider will add pizzazz. 
  • Lemon and orange slices

Steps

  1. Pour the wine into a large pot or slow cooker.
  2. Add WHOLE spices.
  3. Add apple cider (I’m counting on pizzazz).
  4. Add citrus.
  5. Simmer to allow the spices to infuse the wine with their warmth and the other ingredients to marry into a single, delicious drink.
  6. Add brandy to taste.

Tequila Sunrise

Episode 14

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz tequila
  • 3/4 cup orange juice
  • 3/4 oz grenadine Syrup
  • Garnish: orange slice

Steps

  1. In a highball glass filled with ice, pour in the tequila and orange juice. 
  2. Slowly pour the grenadine into the glass over the back of a spoon or by drizzling it down the side of the glass, allowing it to settle at the bottom.
  3. Garnish with an orange slice and maraschino cherry.

Sidecar

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 oz Brandy
  • 1 oz lemon
  • 3/4 oz triple sec
  • Garnish: Lemon twist

Steps

  1. Add all the ingredients into a shaker with ice and shake until very cold.
  2. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass rimmed with sugar.
  3. Garnish with a lemon twist.

(Carmen adds a dash of salt after straining into the glass.)

 

French 75

Episode 24

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces gin
  • 1 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • Champagne or sparkling wine
  • Garnish: long thin lemon spiral and cocktail cherry

Steps

  1. Fill cocktail shaker with ice. Shake gin, lemon juice, and sugar in a cocktail shaker until well chilled, about 15 seconds. Strain into a champagne flute.
  2. Top with Champagne. Stir gently, garnish with a long, thin lemon spiral and a cocktail cherry.

Pink Gin

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 ounces gin
  • 5 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 1/2 ounce lime juice, freshly squeezed
  • Tonic water

Steps

  1. Add the gin, bitters and lime juice to a tall glass filled with ice.
  2. Top with tonic water and stir briefly

The Negroni

Ingredients

  • 1 ounce gin
  • 1 ounce Campari
  • 1 ounce sweet vermouth
  • Garnish: orange peel

Steps

  1. Add all the ingredients into a mixing glass with ice, and stir until well-chilled.
  2. Strain into a rocks glass filled with large ice cubes.
  3. Garnish with an orange peel.

Manhattan

Episode 3 and Variation in Episode 11

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces bourbon or rye
  • 1 ounce sweet vermouth
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 1 dash orange bitters
  • Garnish: brandied cherry

Steps

  1. Add all the ingredients into a mixing glass with ice, and stir until well-chilled.
  2. Strain into a chilled coupe.
  3. Garnish with a brandied cherry.

Note: To make the Southern Comfort Manhattan mentioned in E11, substitute Southern Comfort liqueur instead of bourbon or rye whiskey.

Gimlet

Episode 18

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 ounces gin
  • 1/2 ounce fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 ounce simple syrup
  • Garnish: lime wheel

Steps

  1. Add all ingredients into a shaker with ice and shake.
  2. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass or an Old Fashioned glass filled with fresh ice.
  3. Garnish with a lime wheel.
  4. (You can substitute 1 oz lime cordial, such as Rose’s lime juice, for both the lime juice and simple syrup.).

Margarita

Ingredients

  • 2 lime wedges, for rimming glasses and garnish
  • 1/4 c. kosher salt or coarse sea salt, for rimming glass
  • 4 oz. tequila
  • 2 oz. triple sec
  • 1 1/2 oz. freshly squeezed lime juice
  • Ice

 Steps

  1. Place salt on small shallow plate. Rim two glasses with lime wedge, then dip in salt to coat rim.
  2. Divide tequila, triple sec, and lime juice between 2 glasses and stir to combine. Top with ice, garnish with lime, and serve.

Pina Colada

Ingredients

  • 2-1/4 cups unsweetened pineapple juice
  • 1 can (15 ounces) cream of coconut
  • 1-1/2 cups light rum
  • 6 cups crushed ice
  • Pineapple wedges

Steps

  • In a 2-qt. pitcher, combine pineapple juice, cream of coconut and rum. Refrigerate, covered, until chilled. 
  • For each serving, add a generous cup of rum mixture and 1 cup ice to a blender. Process, covered, until smooth. 
  • Pour into a chilled hurricane or highball glass. 
  • Cut a 1-in. slit into tip of a pineapple wedge; slide wedge over rim of glass.

Crymax

Episode 9

Ingredients

  • 1 pint strawberries, washed and stems removed
  • 3 Tbsp. pure cane sugar
  • 5 oz. Sauvignon Blanc
  • 3 oz. club soda

Steps

  1. Blend strawberries, sugar and 2 to 3 tablespoon of filtered water in a bullet or blender. Reserve 2 ounces purée and store the rest in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  2. Pour wine, soda and purée over ice and serve in a Collins glass.

Unicorn Tears

Episode 9

Ingredients

  • 1 oz gin
  • ½ oz Chombard
  • ½ oz St. Germaine
  • ½ oz Peach Schnapps
  • Prosecco
  • Raspberries (optional garnish)

Steps

  1. Pour gin, Chombard, St. Germaine, and schnapps into a cocktail shaker. Shake vigorously.
  2. Place a few raspberries into the bottom each two champagne glasses.
  3. Divide contents of shaker evenly between the glasses, over the raspberries.
  4. Top off each glass with Prosecco.
  5. Enjoy!

Bourbon Slush

Episode 11

Ingredients

  • 9 cups water, divided
  • 3 black tea bags
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 12 ounces frozen lemonade concentrate
  • 6 ounces frozen orange juice concentrate
  • 2 cups bourbon
  • 2 liters ginger ale, chilled, for serving

Steps

  1. In a small saucepan, bring 2 cups of the water to a boil. Add the tea bags and allow to steep for 10 minutes. Discard the tea bags. Stir in the sugar until it dissolves.
  2. In a large container, combine the brewed tea, lemonade and orange juice concentrates, remaining water and bourbon.
  3. Place the container in the freezer for at least 4 to 6 hours or preferably overnight until the slush is firm all the way through.
  4. Scoop the bourbon slush into a tumbler glass, top with ginger ale and serve.

German Grog

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces dark rum
  • 1/2 ounce fresh lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 4 ounces hot water
  • Slice of orange and a cinnamon stick

Steps

  1. Mix the rum, lime juice, brown sugar, and hot water in a mug. Garnish with an orange slice and a cinnamon stick.

Suffering Bastard

Episode 10

Ingredients

  • 1 oz Bourbon
  • 1 oz London dry gin
  • 1/2 oz Fresh lime juice
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • Ginger ale, to top
  • Garnish: Mint sprig

Steps

  1. Add the bourbon, gin, lime juice and bitters into a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled (about 30 seconds).
  2. Strain into a Collins glass over fresh ice.
  3. Top with the ginger ale.
  4. Garnish with a mint sprig.

Long Island Tea

Episode 10

Ingredients

  • 3/4 oz Vodka
  • 3/4 oz White rum
  • 3/4 oz Silver tequila
  • 3/4 oz Gin
  • 3/4 oz Triple sec
  • 3/4 oz Simple syrup
  • 3/4 oz Fresh lemon juice
  • Cola, to top
  • Garnish: Lemon wedge

Steps

  1. Add all ingredients except the cola into a Collins glass with ice.
  2. Top with a splash of the cola and stir briefly.
  3. Garnish with a lemon wedge.
  4. Serve with a straw.

James Bond's Vesper

Ingredients

  • 3 measures Gordon’s gin
  • 1 measure vodka
  • ½ measure Cocchi Americano

Steps

  1. Shake until ice cold
  2. Strain into chilled martini glass
  3. Garnish with large, thin slice of lemon peel

Singapore Sling

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 ounces gin
  • 1 ounce Benedictine
  • 1 ounce lime juice
  • 1/2 ounce cherry liqueur
  • 1/4 ounce simple syrup
  • Ice cubes
  • 2 ounces club soda
  • Garnish: ​lemon slice
  • Garnish: maraschino cherry

Steps

  1. Pour the gin, Benedictine, lime juice, cherry liqueur, and simple syrup into a cocktail shaker filled with ice cubes.
  2. Shake well.
  3. Strain into a highball glass over fresh ice.
  4. Top with club soda.
  5. Garnish with a lemon slice and cherry.

Gin Fizz

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz Gin
  • 1 cl fresh lemon juice
  • Dash simple syrup
  • Splash of soda water

Steps

  1. Shake all ingredients with ice cubes, except soda water. 
  2. Pour into glass. 
  3. Top with soda water.
