Summary:

Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face, and then never speaks another word.

Carmen’s take: 4 stars

This one grabbed me from the very beginning, and took me on quite a ride. The story begins with the fact of the murder, so that is never in question. Brilliantly, the author goes back and forth between current day and the events leading up to the shooting, until the two converge in what was a mind blown for me.

Full of red herrings, peripheral characters, and hidden clues, I was forever changing my prediction of the who and the why. The characters were very real and sympathetic, and I was fully invested in the psychology of this murder by the time I reached the climax. I am usually able to spot a first-novel at 10 paces, but this one is written and edited to make reading effortless and enjoyable. I look forward to other titles by this author.
