I love my book Clubs!  I am in two.  One started just last year with my collegiate and alum sorority sisters.  It was been really fun discussing books with younger and smarter sorority sisters.  My second club, I have been a member for a couple of years now.  Shout out to the Book and Booze members!

Book clubs are so much fun. There many types of books clubs you could join.  There are online clubs like on Goodreads or BookRiot.  Now many celebrities, like Oprah and Reese, have their own clubs. Book clubs are known to offer a wide range of books based on different genres. As different people from different backgrounds meet together in these social book clubs, it can be a new way of finding great books that might otherwise have been overlooked by you. It also forces you to study new genres of books which you might find to your liking.

Books clubs are a great way to socialize for people who might not get other opportunities to do so. By reading more, people can stay up to date with the latest information and expand their horizons. So, what are the real benefits of book clubs? Let’s take a close look at some of them:

Creating New Friendships

As a busy mom or dad, there are not many avenues for finding new friends. But book clubs offer up ways of entering new social circles and meeting like-minded people with similar interests and hobbies. Books clubs meet on a monthly or weekly basis, and allows people to foster new friendships through reading great books. Entering new social circles can help alleviate the risk of depression and loneliness.

Broadening Perspectives

We live in a world where people like to stay in their own little bubble (see what I did there ~ha). Book clubs break that cycle and by meeting new people, you can gain a new perspective on your world view and increase your understanding of modern issues. It facilitates us to have conversations around difficult and controversial topics and increasing our learning of the relevant social issues that are plaguing the modern world today.

Getting Out of Your Comfort Zone

Book clubs are known to offer a wide range of books based on different genres. As different people from different backgrounds meet together in these social book clubs, it can be a new way of finding great books that might otherwise have been overlooked by you. It also forces you to study new genres of books which you might find to your liking.

Enhances Your Communications Skills

Books are one of the best mediums for forming personal opinions. Everyone has a strong opinion on the books they read upon, and book clubs give people a platform to voice their opinions to other friendly people. This helps in maintaining and improving communication skills for senior individuals who don’t often get the same opportunity elsewhere. Books clubs offer a non-judgmental space for people to be honest and participants can voice their opinions without facing any backlash, thus encouraging the sharing of new ideas.

Enables More Awareness of Cultural Issues

Book clubs invite people from all races and cultures. Thus, a lot of views and ideas get a chance to be shared, which enables us to learn more about different cultures and cultural issues. It challenges our world views and offers us a deeper understanding of the current issues that plague modern society.

Book clubs have a very informal setting, which takes away the intimidation factor and helps us be more comfortable in sharing our thoughts and ideas. It increases our learning and helps us get introduced to new ideas and viewpoints.

“What’s the point of having a book club if you don’t get to eat brownies and drink wine?”
