Kya Life

My job is to guard the house. Nobody specifically trained me for this task nor directed me to fulfill this role but it’s one that obviously must be done for a myriad of reasons. First, and foremost, Mom and Dad seem oblivious to most threats and I’m the only one who even notices. Second, I just don’t like too much stuff going on that’s out of the ordinary; like people talking outside or animals crossing my yard. It’s very disconcerting.

The one thing that Dad has told me over and over is that I have to be polite. So when I notice these things, I just try to get someone’s attention without saying too much. If I do, it’s always with the “Please be polite, Kya.” Such is my life. It’s not easy but I try my best.

So, just last night I was being real good. I noticed something that no one else did. Big surprise, right?! I got Dad’s attention and he said, “OK, sweetie. Just a sec.” So I waited. But then I noticed it again! Something was out there in my yard! Who knows what that thing was trying to do! It was up to no good I tell you. I made myself big so if it saw me it would be really scared. I told Dad again and he said I could go outside to see what it was so I rushed out the door real fast! I got there way faster than he did. He seemed confused but I was not at all.

At least, not until I got there. When I got there, this thing that was nosing around like he owned the place suddenly stopped moving and laid down on its side. Then suddenly, I knew that’s what would happen! That’s why I made myself big to start with. I scared it and it worked! Dad was still confused and too far away. (He sometimes moves way to slow. Good thing I’m around.) So I figured I would bring it to him so he could see it up close but right when I got it in my mouth, he told me to drop it. Bleh. It tasted worse than it smelled anyway. He told me I did real good and told me what a good girl I was. When Mom heard, she squealed and scratched my ears. I love it when she does that.

Yep. I try my best.

That “possum” (Dad called it that) ain’t seen no one like me!

Regards,
Kya
